Discussion:
All circuits are busy on a Sonic.net Fusion line?

After the event I posted to an internal Sonic group and have not gotten
anything back, so checking to see if somebody "here" might know what was
going on....

I am a Sonic.net Fusion customer out of the OKLDCA04 central office.

Last week I experienced a period where inbound calls got "All circuits are
busy". I was not aware of it lasting more than about an hour but it is
not evident when nobody is trying to call me.

It was sporadic but it was existent for calls from both Verizon and
T-mobile cell phones.

The message included:

"All circuits are busy"
"Announcement 8"
"Switch 40-1"

My call to 611/Sonic support did not find a problem and my line was seen
to be relatively error free.

My main questions:

Can *anything* on my side of the Sonic gear cause an "All circuits are
busy" situation?

Any chance that the "switch 40-1" message might narrow down where the
problem was?

This is no slam on Sonic. The tech was looking at my end of the line and
I was thinking that it had to be on their side.

I am just trying to confirm my understanding of the "all circuits are
busy" situation.

I would have thought that if there was a problem reaching your Sonic
phone that the switch would connect the caller with voicemail rather
than giving a fast busy

I started with them shortly before they added the voicemail option to
Fusion, and I have not tried it yet, so my voice mail is provided by my
home phone.

Typically yes, but I think this issue was related to inbound trunks into our
network, or to trunk capacity upstream of us. I'm talking to the group here
to try to nail down the specifics.

I was getting this problem calling my home number yesterday. And even
when I didn't get the "all circuits are busy" message and the call
allegedly connected, we could not hear each other. When I got home my
kids asked why I kept calling and hanging up. Eventually I got through,
after about five tries. My wife has also experienced this. It seems to
happen between 5pm and 6pm.

This issue was found, and in theory resolved a couple days ago. See MOTD
for update.

If you hear it again, please send over exact date/time observed, calling
and called number, and the exact error heard. We will track it down!

I'm running into the same issue, but am seeing the message of the day as different - I know this is a bit of necro-threading, but can you help me understand what the fix was?

Okay, so I found the Sonic MOTD in question. I'm actually using FastMetrics, but I was hoping I might be able to inform them of what the issue was to better shed light. :/

I am just trying to confirm my understanding of the "all circuits are
busy" situation.
"All circuits busy" means that there are no routes on which to place a
call. This can be because they are, indeed, all busy, or more likely, it
is due to a transport fault which really means that no circuits are
available.

If I pick up my home phone, dial "9" and then dial a call, if the "all
circuits are busy" recording (locally-produced) pops up, it can mean
that a distant host which would complete that particular call is down,
or it can mean that my Internet connection is down. In any event, it
means my switch cannot find any routes to complete the call...usually
due to a hardware or link fault.

I was getting an "all circuits are busy" message as well. I assumed it
was a problem with the cellular carriers.
