CompUSA doesn't have parts, or major appliances, or electronic bench
equipment in the same way that Fry's does. They both sell computers,
software, and video games, but CompUSA is more like Circuit City (RIP)
or BestBuy than Fry's.

Tigerdirect bought a few Compusa stores and took over the name and
locations once the liquidation sale finished.

I'm the original poster.

I'd always found Micro Center in Santa Clara to be
a lackluster store, with fewish customers. I
hadn't visited since 2007. I went there yesterday
and I found the product selection to be pretty
good. Either they've changed or I have: I can't
tell which.

I could live with a Micro Center store as a
substitute for Fry's if I had to. They do have
stores in the Northeast:

I've found Micro Center to be reasonable substitute for Fry's for
computer stuff. It doesn't carry the household appliances or CDs and
DVDs that Fry's does, but Best Buy does carry those items. So a
combination of Micro Center and Best Buy provides a reasonable facsimile
of what one can buy at Fry's for about the same prices.

Oh you are really a day late and about 1 hour short. Friends just left who spend their winters in Florida and are techies. So they would know where to go there.
